FAMILY COUNSELLING SERVICE
Downstrands Family Counselling Service is part of Downstrands Family Resource Centre, a local charity supporting families in Ardara, Glenties, Rosbeg & Portnoo.
The Counselling Service is a preventative, early intervention service, which means that clients are helped to address issues before they reach a crisis point.
The Counselling Service helps clients to understand and cope better with the day to day
challenges they may face.
Our Counsellors & Play Therapists are highly qualified with years of professional experience. They are well-recognised in their field and highly thought of by our previous and current service users.

Confidentiality
We know that confidentiality is an extremely important factor when people decide to seek help from our service. The Counselling Service has a separate phone line which is staffed by our Counselling Manager
Adult Counselling 18+
Adolescent Counselling 12-18 years
Play Therapy 3-18 years
HOW TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
You can talk to your GP who will make a referral to our service on your behalf. Once we receive the referral the Counselling Manager will call you with an appointment.
Alternatively you can make a self-referral by calling our Counselling Manager 087 3652577. She will ask for your name and a contact telephone number and will give you information regarding the current waiting times.
Appointments for children can be made through the GP, School Principal or by self referral from a parent.
Young people under 18 wishing to talk to a counsellor can do so in private but will need permission from a parent to use the service.
